Curriculum
We have designed our curriculum with the aim of making it deep and irresistible so that it meets the needs of the children in our community. The process of curriculum planning is core to our teaching and learning and is built so that children encounter and learn the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in the future. We truly want all our children to "turn their ears to wisdom and apply their hearts to understanding".
We have a topic-based approach to learning incorporating all aspects of the National Curriculum. The topics are enriched using high quality texts that promote language acquisition and a love of reading. Our engaging learning environments reflect the topics, and support the children's development of knowledge and skills. High quality resources, trips and visitors further enhance our topic approach.
Mathematics is taught as a discrete subject with curriculum links made where possible. Phonics is taught using the Read Write Inc programme.
As we design and refresh our curriculum, we carefully ensure that all children have equal opportunities and there is access for all (Equality Act 2010). Planning is regularly refreshed by the teachers to ensure that it is current and that the curriculum is inclusive, meeting the needs of all children. (Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014). Where necessary, targeted intervention and booster groups will help children to accelerate their progress.
A full breakdown of the National Curriculum programme of study can be found in the relevant Year Group section of the website.
