Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader update Spring 2023
At the start of this term, we were able to celebrate our first terms millionaires! We had four and two of those were in Year 3! Amazing! We have several more that are really close and hope to celebrate these at the end of this term. Please keep encouraging your children to quiz at home. The quizzes should be completed as close to finishing the book as possible. If the book is non-fiction, they are allowed to have the book in front of them when they quiz.
Accelerated Reader – ‘Reading for pleasure’
Reading is an extremely important part of our curriculum and after having positive feedback we are going to continue to allow the children in KS2 to take their Accelerated Reader tests at home.
Please remember to logon through the website to ensure that you are directed to our portal;

Accelerated reader is an integral part of the reading experience at Broadwater. It promotes ‘Reading for Pleasure’ and, we continue to see an improvement in children’s attitudes to reading and their reading ability over this time.
We encourage the children to read for a minimum of 30 minutes a day (this can include what they read in school). Children can take a book quiz on fiction and non-fiction books and they can also quiz on their guided reading book (if the book has a quiz).
Please remember that the children should not have the book in front of them when they quiz unless it is a non-fiction book. If you are unsure if a book has a quiz please have a look on ARbook finder https://www.arbookfind.co.uk/UserType.aspx?RedirectURL=%2fdefault.aspx this will also allow you to request a quiz of there is a particular book that you want a quiz on.
Teachers will be checking if children have achieved Master Class (reading time of 25 minutes and a quiz average above 85%) and celebrating these with them weekly. We will also be celebrating the children that read a million plus words.
Parents can access their child’s reading record, book shelf and quiz information on Renaissance Accelerated Reader. Every time your child takes a quiz you will be notified and the information is immediate. You will be able to see your child’s progress and talk about the books that they have read or are planning to read.
Thank you for your support in this.
