Sea Safety Talk

Today we had a visit from Michelle Cannon, one of Worthing's Coastal Wardens.  She talk to the children about staying safe whilst at the beach. 

With the children in Key Stage 1 and Early Years she discussed how to stay safe at the beach, including:

  • Staying with a grown up when in the water,
  • Wearing sturdy footwear when rockpooling,
  • Having a good aim when throwing stones,
  • Use of suncream and hats.
     
     

Key Stage 2 were told how to stay safe at the beach, including:

  • Swim between groynes not out away from the shore, 
  • Wearing sturdy footwear when rockpooling,
  • Wearing a buoyancy aid if paddleboarding,
  • Scoot in a straight line on the prom,
  • If you use an inflatable tie it on and grown ups hold the end,
  • Use of suncream and hats.
  • Relevance of safety flags and demonstrated how to use a throwline.
 
 
The Coastal Office have Marine Warrior backpacks which are free to hire (just need £30 deposit), they talked about the rockpool reef in warden's office.  
They also discussed leaving nothing but memories and footprints behind and taking all rubbish home.
