Key Stage 1 Nativity

December 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we draw nearer to the end of the term, we can (as always at this time of year) see the children beginning to get excited. Every day my Ducks and Hen pass the rotating Christmas tree in the the reception area and find it increasingly difficult not to touch the shiny decorations and pull the tree over!

The Nativity performances were a wonderful reminder of the special meaning of Christmas. The children and staff worked so hard to bring us the Christmas Story and I would like to thank them all.

I would also like to take this opportunity in thanking FAB and all of you! What an amazing achievement to have raised all of those funds for our school.

We have again been well looked after with eatable treats for staff- thank you. We very much appreciate your lovely gifts and good wishes.

From all of us at Broadwater we wish you a very Happy Christmas.

Mrs Simpson

Headteacher

SPORTS REPORT

28th November

Sussex Martlets trampoline competition

Quiana (from year 5) was competing for the Sussex Martlets and complied a superb routine including all sorts of flips, twists, jumps and moves that required incredible skill and co-ordination. She finished 5th to earn herself a trophy and also qualify for the next stage of the competition where she will compete against various other counties in Taunton. Well done Quiana!

30th November

Year 6 Football Tournament

3rd place!

Some of the year 6 boys went to the Sussex FA stadium in Lancing to compete in the football tournament.  The team showed incredible levels of determination and stamina as they played 6 matches back-to-back.  The defending was nothing short of heroic at times and a special mention must go to Ethan who was sensational in goal throughout the whole tournament.  The team kept 5 clean sheets in their 6 matches – the only blemish coming against the eventual champions Chesswood. Unfortunately, we were finding it difficult to convert our own chances resulting in several 0-0s! Excellent displays against West Park, Heene, TAB, Orchards and Whytemead meant that the team finished in an excellent 3rd out of 7 which they were, deservedly, very proud of.

SCHOOL CROSSING PATROL - ADVANCE WARNING

Ms Costello our School Crossing Patrol will not be on duty on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th December. Please make a note if your child uses South Farm Road as there will be no one supervising the crossing.  Thank you.

BROADWATER COMMUNITY AWARD

Earlier this month, Taina and Ella in Year 4 along with Taina's mum and some of their neighbours, dressed as elves, decorated a trolley with lights and went door to door down their street with Christmas music blaring out, to collect donations for the Worthing Soup Kitchen.  They had an amazing response with lots of food and gift donations and £111 in cash donations!

Well done Taina and Ella!

WRAP AROUND CARE

Governor visit to Wrap Around Care (Governor visit Report)

The Governors recently had the pleasure of visiting the new Wrap Around Care facility.  The Governors have been active in supporting the School in ensuring the new Wrap Around Care facility embraces the ethos of the school and its community.

Since the new facility opened in September, take-up has been excellent with high levels of attendance every day.  The children can access a care facility which offers a broad range of experiences which mirror the school, spanning games, sports, arts & crafts, computing, role play, reading and plenty of free choice time, with the line-up changing every day.  A healthy menu of fresh food is cooked in a dedicated, newly-refurbished kitchen – with the menu featuring input from the children.

The Governors are proud of the new facilities at the Wrap Around Care club, with staff taking an active role in guiding the children’s experiences.  We are sure that this additional service will continue to be well received by parents/carers and by the children who use it.  Please visit the website for all information.

F@B NEWS

Once again we've been blown away by the amazing support parents have shown F@B this term. We know that you (& us) were disappointed about the lack of a Christmas fair but the support for the hamper raffle and lucky dip blew us away, both in terms of donations and participation. This term we raised over £350 from the uniform and cake sales at parents evenings, over £1350 from the hamper raffle & lucky dips and a fabulous £860 from the Christmas cards designs and other Christmas items. So all-in, that's over £2500 to support your school. Thank you all so much for your time, efforts and money to each and everyone .

Looking forward, we desperately need a chairperson to lead us forward, this term has shown that we need a strong leadership to take us forward as well as the highly committed committee to take F@B to the next level. Please let us know if you're able to fill our breach,  with warmest Christmas wishes from all at F@B.

We’re a small but dedicated team of parents who organise fundraising events
to support the school. If you would like to know more, please email us.

Reminders

Coronavirus

Children with COVID-19 symptoms

If your child has tested positive on a Lateral Flow Test or on a PCR please inform the school as soon as possible either via phone or using the medical email address medical@broadwaterce.org.  Please continue to email us during the Christmas break so that we are able to monitor numbers for when we return to school in January.

Any updated information for parents can be found on the website under the Information tab/Parent Information/Latest Information for Parents or click on the link below: Latest Information for Parents

If your child has any of the main COVID-19 symptoms (a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste) they should NOT attend school and should stay at home.  Please be aware that many of our children present with cold like symptoms and then subsequently test positive.

You should arrange for them to get a PCR test and email or call the office with the test results.  Your child should not attend school while you are waiting for test results even if they are feeling better.

If the test is negative they should continue to go to school as normal.  If they test positive, they should continue to self isolate and follow public health advise.

Close contacts

If anyone in the household has symptoms, the whole household can get a PCR as close contacts.  If children are a close contact they are now asked to take a lateral flow test (LFT) before attending school, if they are not displaying symptoms themselves.  This includes primary aged children.  This is left to parental discretion, and test kits for primary aged pupils can be accessed via gov.uk or their local pharmacy.

If your child has no symptoms themselves, they can come to school. If you are unsure, please contact the school!

Admissions for September 2022

As in recent years, parents are being encouraged to apply for their child’s school place using the online system at www.westsussex.gov.uk. Applications must be submitted by the national closing date of Saturday 15 January 2022. The online system opened yesterday Monday 4 October 2021.

For parents who do not have access to the Internet at home, free access has been arranged at all libraries and Children and Family Centres within West Sussex, where staff will be on hand to assist parents making their application.

Parents resident in West Sussex must complete an official West Sussex County Council application in order to apply for a school place.

Applications not made by the closing date cannot be considered until after all other applications have been considered. This may mean it is not possible to offer a child a place at a local school.

Please ensure you apply before the closing date of Saturday 15 January 2022.

Safety:

Please can all jewellery be removed before coming to school and hair that is longer than shoulder length be tied back. Plain hair bands can be worn to keep long hair/fringe out of children's eyes.

Traffic:

Please can I remind you not to park on the zig-zags outside the school or across residents' driveways.  We are still receiving complaints from both parents and residents on the matter.
