I am so pleased to say that the children have settled in to new classes and routines really well. Our Early Years children have very quickly become used to school and it is a pleasure to see them playing and learning together. Already this term we have been busy going on trips, swimming and creating mosaics. Thank you for your support with these events. It was Broadwater Day today and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donations to the Governors' fund. We are all very grateful for the contributions that we receive from our parents and the wider parish community. Please keep an eye on the school calendar for upcoming events and I look forward to seeing you at the Parent Consultation meetings in a few weeks time. Mrs Simpson Headteacher (To keep up with all of the news please see the school website.) Activities that have been taking place so far this term: Year 2Year 2 have been learning about pitch in their music lessons. The children have been using the glockenspiel to play different pitched tunes. ![]() Year 3In year 3 the children are beginning to learn French. On Friday, their classrooms were turned into a French café. All of the children enjoyed eating and drinking traditional French breakfast items. Whilst at the café, they were entertained by listening to French music and learnt about French culture. Everyone enjoyed eating at the French café and the children learnt new French vocabulary. Year 4Year 4 enjoyed creating Celt and Roman shields. They explored the designs of each shield before creating their own. They also learnt about how the Romans and Celts fought. The Celts were wild and undisciplined whereas the Romans were organised. They learnt how to form a Roman 'tortoise' formation! Toucan and Macaw class then enjoyed a 'mock battle' where they re-enacted the Romans defeating the Celts. Year 5Year 5 were busy learning all about rivers in preparation for their exciting trip to Gaveston Hall! They have created beautifully presented topic pages using river terminology. Year 6Year 6 started their All Washed Up topic with a trip to Worthing Seafront last week. They learnt about how the land use around Splash Point has changed and developed over time, sketched the fishing boats, and did some photography and poetry. Sue Penrose, a mosaic artist from Brighton, worked with the children last week to bring the Art Council designs to life. Every child in Year 1 to 6 have had the opportunity to be part of the school mosaic project. Whilst working on the mosaic, some children chatted about their experience: "I've never worked with a mosaic artist before and I really enjoyed it." "The mosaics look amazing! I can't wait to see them in our Prayer Garden." "I love the way in which the design includes the Fruit of the Spirit. I like the message that gives." We can't wait to see the finished design. Thank you F@B for funding this fabulous Art event. DONATIONS Thank you so much for the uniform donations. If you should need any help with this or advice please contact the school.
ECO NEWSThere are two new bins in the foyer to the school. One is for recycling pens - ball points, felt pens, marker pens, highlighters - any sort of pen but no pencils please. These will be recycled as part of the TerraCycle scheme, through Worthing Boys' Club and raise money for the school. The more we recycle, the more funds the school receives. The second bin is for recycling ink cartridges. This can be any make of ink cartridge but not toner or laser cartridges. These will be recycled through the 'Recycle 4 Charity' scheme and again will raise money for our school. Please collect all your pens and ink cartridges and drop them off in the bins in the foyer so that we help the environment and raise money for the school too. Please share this with your family and friends and encourage them to recycle with us and raise funds for Broadwater.
